Kosmos Energy Announces First LNG Production at Greater Tortue Ahmeyim

Kosmos Energy has confirmed the commencement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at the bp-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

On December 31, 2024, gas from GTA Phase 1 began flowing from the wells to the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel as part of the commissioning process.

At the FPSO, the gas is processed to remove condensate, water, and impurities before being transferred to the floating LNG (FLNG) vessel for liquefaction.

Gas has now reached the FLNG vessel, and the liquefaction process is underway. Kosmos will start recognizing gas entitlement production in its quarterly financial statements once liquefaction progresses.

Meanwhile, BP has notified the offtaker, BP Gas Marketing Ltd., to dispatch an LNG carrier later this quarter for the first export shipment. Kosmos will begin generating revenue and cash flow once the first LNG cargo is lifted.

Kosmos Energy Chairman and CEO Andrew G. Inglis described this as a major milestone for Kosmos, its GTA partners, and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal.

He emphasized the project’s strategic importance and expressed confidence in rapidly scaling up production and delivering the first LNG cargo within Q1 2025.
