Petra Diamonds Trading Halted in London After Delayed Audit of South African Operations
Shares of Petra Diamonds were suspended from trading on the London Stock Exchange after the company failed to publish its audited annual financial results within the regulatory deadline, triggering action from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The diamond producer, whose operations are concentrated in South Africa and Tanzania, said the delay stems from an ongoing review by its external auditors, particularly concerning the valuation of certain assets and financial reporting matters. As a result, the company was unable to release its audited results on schedule.
Petra Diamonds emphasized that the audit process remains underway and that it is working closely with its auditors to finalize the outstanding issues.
The company added that it expects the publication of its annual report and the restoration of trading once the audit has been completed and approved.
The suspension comes at a challenging period for the global diamond industry, which has been grappling with weaker demand, softer diamond prices and growing competition from laboratory-grown diamonds.
These market conditions have placed pressure on producers across the sector, leading many companies to review costs, defer investments and reassess production plans.
Petra operates several key mining assets, including South Africa’s renowned Cullinan Mine, famous for producing some of the world’s largest and most valuable diamonds, as well as the Finsch Mine and Tanzania’s Williamson Mine.
The company has been working to strengthen its balance sheet and improve operational performance amid ongoing volatility in the diamond market.
Investors are expected to closely monitor the outcome of the audit review for further clarity on the company’s financial position and outlook.
The timing of the resumption of trading will depend on the publication of the audited results and regulatory approval.
Despite the temporary suspension, Petra Diamonds stated that its mining operations continue as normal while the audit process is finalized.
