Pumangol Launches Digital Self-Service Fueling Platform to Modernize Customer Experience in Angola
Angolan fuel distributor Pumangol has launched an innovative self-service fueling solution that allows motorists to refuel their vehicles independently using a mobile application, marking a significant step in the company’s digital transformation strategy.
The new service, known as Self Service VIA, is integrated into the company’s VIA mobile app and enables customers to manage the entire fueling process without assistance from station attendants.
The initiative is designed to provide a faster, more convenient, and flexible experience for motorists while streamlining operations at service stations.
Initially, the service has been rolled out at three Pumangol stations in Luanda: Baía de Luanda, Elavoko in Morro Bento, and Nova Vida.
Customers wishing to use the platform must first download the VIA app, register an account, and follow the in-app instructions to activate the self-service functionality.
The digital fueling process allows motorists to scan a QR code displayed at the fuel pump, select either a fuel amount or a specific number of litres, and authorize payment electronically through Multicaixa Express.
Once payment is approved, the system automatically unlocks the pump, enabling customers to fuel their vehicles independently.
Pumangol says the technology is intended to reduce waiting times, especially during peak traffic periods when queues often form around station attendants.
By enabling customers to complete transactions independently, the company expects to improve convenience while enhancing operational efficiency across participating service stations.
Company representatives emphasized that the introduction of the self-service model will not eliminate jobs.
Instead, the system is being implemented in larger stations with multiple fueling islands, where designated pumps are reserved for autonomous fueling while attendants continue serving customers who prefer traditional service.
The company also believes the system will be particularly beneficial during evening hours when fewer attendants are available and customer traffic is typically lower.
By combining digital payments with autonomous fueling, Pumangol aims to offer a more modern retail experience while supporting Angola’s growing adoption of digital services.
The launch reflects a broader trend in the energy retail sector, where fuel distributors are increasingly investing in technology-driven solutions to enhance customer convenience, improve efficiency, and strengthen service delivery.
