Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, recently met with senior officials from French energy giant TotalEnergies.
The delegation included Thomas Strauss, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Egypt, and Pascal Breant, Managing Director of TotalEnergies E&P in Egypt.
The meeting focused on TotalEnergies’ activities in Egypt and their plans concerning the recent EGAS bid for 2024, which seeks to explore and develop oil and gas in 12 sectors across the Mediterranean and the Nile Delta.
Minister Badawi emphasized the critical role of modern technologies in advancing research, exploration, and production.
He advocated for strategic partnerships and the sharing of expertise to achieve mutual benefits and enhance operational efficiency while reducing costs.
Badawi also welcomed TotalEnergies’ interest in supplying gas from Cypriot fields to Egypt. This gas could either be liquefied in Egyptian facilities for re-export or used to meet local market demands.
Thomas Strauss outlined TotalEnergies’ commitment to expanding production, distribution, and export of lubricants and petroleum products in Egypt and Africa, with Egypt serving as a gateway to the continent.
He highlighted the company’s plans to increase its aviation fuel marketing and supply activities and noted the establishment of a technical center and driver training facility in Egypt.
Pascal Breant revealed that TotalEnergies is actively evaluating investment opportunities in the new EGAS tender and considers supplying gas from its Cypriot fields to Egypt as a priority due to logistical advantages.
