The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas convened a crucial seminar in Moçâmedes since Monday December 11th, focusing on investment prospects within Namibe province’s sector.
Notably, this gathering anticipates the imminent commencement of offshore oil exploration.
Under the theme “Sustainable Exploration of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas,” the seminar concludes today following comprehensive presentations on the province’s potential.
The agenda featured an exhibition spotlighting equipment crucial for preventing and managing oil spills during exploration. Additionally, insights were provided on coexisting with fishing activities.
A key highlight of the exhibition was the proposed model for the Ornamental Rocks Industrial Development Pole.
This envisioned hub encompasses a comprehensive infrastructure plan, encompassing a dry port linked to the railway, loading and unloading platforms, social amenities including a police station, commercial spaces, a convention center, and the Ornamental Rocks Valorization Center.
It further includes accommodations, an industrial zone housing a hybrid energy plant, and a technical area.
Governor Archer Mangueira of Namibe emphasized the pivotal role of the Ornamental Rocks Industrial Development Pole in diversifying the economy.
He highlighted its potential to generate employment, foster innovation, boost local production, and attract investments, propelling the region toward unprecedented growth prospects.
Minister Diamantino de Azevedo stressed the imperative of sustainability across subsectors within the industry.
He emphasized a focus on enhancing the living conditions of communities neighboring exploration areas while adhering to existing legislation.
The seminar’s agenda encompassed critical topics such as environmental legislation within the sector, the geological potential of the province, available mining opportunities and facilities for small-scale industries, alongside discussions on specific experiences like offshore diamond exploration and challenges faced within Namibe’s mining resource exploration chain.
Notable attendees included mining concession directors, legal and regulatory experts from the Ministry, senior officials from the oil and gas sector, provincial government representatives, business leaders, traditional authorities, and civil society members, highlighting the collaborative effort to explore and leverage the region’s potential for sustainable growth.
