Sintana Energy and Pancontinental Gain 12-Month Extension for Namibia PEL 87 Offshore Exploration
Sintana Energy Inc. announced that its joint venture partner, Pancontinental Energy Limited, has received approval from Namibia’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy to extend the First Renewal Exploration Period for Petroleum Exploration License 87 (PEL 87).
The extension grants the partners an additional 12 months, until January 22, 2027, to continue exploration activities on the offshore license.
PEL 87 covers blocks 2713A and 2713B offshore Namibia. Sintana holds a 7.4% indirect carried interest in the license, while Pancontinental Energy serves as the operator.
Under the updated work program, the joint venture plans to complete an environmental impact assessment (EIA), reprocess and interpret 3D seismic data, and drill an exploration well.
The EIA, which began in 2025, is currently underway. The seismic reprocessing will focus on selected portions of the existing 3D dataset to enhance subsurface imaging and better define drilling targets.
Robert Bose, Chief Executive of Sintana Energy, thanked the Minister for approving the extension.
He stated that the company will continue refining seismic studies while seeking a farm-in partner to support a targeted drilling program.
The license extension underscores ongoing activity in Namibia’s offshore exploration sector.
Recent discoveries in the Orange Basin have attracted increased interest from international oil and gas companies, highlighting the region’s growing importance in global energy exploration.
