Geoex MCG Expands Venezuela Offshore Seismic Programme into Frontier Oil and Gas Areas
Global subsurface data company Geoex MCG is expanding its offshore Venezuela programme, extending seismic acquisition into underexplored and frontier areas as the country seeks to unlock greater investment in its oil and gas sector.
The expanded programme, announced in Houston, builds on Geoex MCG’s ongoing reprocessing of legacy seismic data and aims to provide a clearer picture of Venezuela’s offshore hydrocarbon potential.
The company is working with more than 40,000 kilometres of vintage 2D seismic data and 4,500 square kilometres of 3D data.
It is also preparing a new basin-scale 2D seismic acquisition programme covering more than 50,000 kilometres of offshore areas, with the potential scope reaching approximately 52,000 kilometres.
Geoex MCG Chief Geoscientist Jeniffer Masi said the new programme will improve the delineation of existing structures while extending exploration coverage into previously unexplored and frontier areas from 2026.
The combination of newly acquired seismic data and modern reprocessing of older datasets is expected to improve understanding of Venezuela’s offshore geology, reduce exploration uncertainty and help identify potential prospects for future development.
The programme covers Venezuela’s wider offshore domain, including areas near established hydrocarbon provinces as well as frontier acreage with limited modern subsurface data.
Recent reprocessing has already highlighted previously unrecognised geological structures and potential opportunities around offshore gas provinces.
For Venezuela, improved offshore data could support renewed exploration and attract international oil and gas companies as the country seeks to expand investment across its hydrocarbon sector.
