Angola Faces Worrying Fuel Shortage as Rising Consumption Puts Pressure on Sonangol

Although the country produces significant volumes of crude oil, limited refining capacity has historically forced it to rely on imported petroleum products.
Increasing local refining capacity would help reduce exposure to international fuel prices, shipping costs and external supply disruptions while improving the security of domestic fuel supplies.
The government is therefore pursuing a broader downstream strategy aimed at increasing refining capacity and strengthening storage and distribution infrastructure.
