Petralon Energy Adds 2,800 BOPD from DI-3, Boosting Dawes Island Production to 4,800 BOPD in Niger Delta
Petralon Energy has commenced production from DI-3, its second consecutive development well on the Dawes Island field in the eastern onshore Niger Delta Basin, marking another milestone in its ongoing drilling campaign.
The DI-3 well was brought onstream on March 14, 2026, adding approximately 2,800 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) to production.
With the new well online, total output from the field has increased to about 4,800 BOPD.
DI-3 follows the successful start-up of DI-2, which began production on October 18, 2025.
Both wells form part of a phased development programme on a field that was previously non-producing when Petralon acquired it in 2021.
Since restarting operations, the company reports that it has exported more than 350,000 barrels of crude oil via the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal, located approximately 30 kilometres from the field.
Petralon also confirmed that the DI-3 development was completed without any lost-time incidents, underscoring its commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Dawes Island spans about 46 square kilometres and is situated roughly 15 kilometres from Port Harcourt, a key oil and gas hub in southern Nigeria.
The company estimates that the field holds around 17.6 million barrels of recoverable oil.
The asset is operated by Petralon 54, a subsidiary of Petralon Energy, which holds a 100% working interest following its acquisition of the field in 2021.
Petralon Energy Founder and CEO Ahonsi Unuigbe said the progress at Dawes Island demonstrates the capability of indigenous operators to successfully acquire and develop upstream assets in Nigeria.
He noted that the decision to proceed with further drilling after DI-2 enabled the successful delivery of DI-3, highlighting the company’s long-term development strategy.
He also acknowledged the support of host communities, regulators, and partners, adding that the field still holds significant untapped potential for future expansion and development.
