Nigerian Oil Firm Oando Becomes Operator of Angola’s Block KON 13 Amid Strong Exploration Potential
Angola’s National Agency for Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG) announced that Nigerian junior oil company Oando has joined the Contractor Group of Block KON 13 as operator, holding a 45% participating interest.
Other partners in the block include Effimax Energy Serviços, Lda with 30%, Sonangol Exploração & Produção with 15%, and Walcot Ltd with 10%.
Block KON 13 is located in the Kwanza Onshore Basin and is considered highly prospective for both pre-salt and post-salt formations.
According to ANPG, estimated prospective oil resources in the block range from 770 million to 1.1 billion barrels.
The agency also noted that previous exploration activity on the block included the drilling of two wells to depths of up to 3,000 meters, which identified oil and gas in multiple strata.
Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of ANPG, said Oando’s entry highlights the growing interest of African oil companies in Angola, reflecting the country’s stability and attractiveness as an investment destination.
“Oando’s involvement demonstrates that African energy firms increasingly view Angola as a secure and promising environment for upstream investment,” Jerónimo said.
