Lucapa’s Trio of Diamonds Fetches $10.5 Million in Angola

Australian mining company Lucapa has successfully sold three diamonds from the Lulo alluvial mine in Lunda Norte, Angola, fetching a total of $10.5 million.

Facilitated by Angola’s state-owned diamond trading company Sodiam, the sale comprised a trio of diamonds totaling 361 carats, with an impressive average price of $29,000 per carat.

Among the diamonds were one weighing 203 carats, another weighing 116 carats, and a third weighing 42 carats.

Notably, the largest of the three marks the fifth biggest diamond ever recovered from the mine. Classified as Type IIa stones, these diamonds were part of Lucapa’s first Lulo Mine tender in 2024.

This successful sale follows a series of significant discoveries at the mine, including a 203-carat diamond found in March 2024 and a 235-carat diamond unearthed in November 2023 – only the second of its kind discovered at Lulo.

In total, the mine has yielded over 40 diamonds weighing over 100 carats and four exceeding 200 carats.

Lucapa operates the mine with a 40% interest, with the remaining shares held by Angola’s state-owned diamond corporation Endiama and private company Rosas & Petalas.
