Angola Diamond Production Rises 8% in 2025 as UAE Dominates Export Market

Angola Produces 15.19 Million Carats of Diamonds in 2025, with UAE Accounting for Nearly 80% of Exports

Angola increased its rough diamond production by 8% year-on-year to 15.19 million carats in 2025, exceeding the national target of 14.8 million carats, a senior government official said on Tuesday.

The United Arab Emirates accounted for nearly 80% of the country’s diamond exports during the year.

According to government data, the United Arab Emirates represented 78.6% of Angola’s diamond exports, followed by Belgium at 19.9%, cementing the two nations as Angola’s principal export destinations for rough diamonds.

Total diamond exports exceeded 17 million carats, generating approximately $1.6 billion in gross revenue, said Janio Correa Victor.

“The volume of diamonds marketed in 2025 recorded an increase of around 70% compared to the previous year, while gross value grew by approximately 6.7%,” Victor said.

Since the end of its civil war in 2002, Angola  sub-Saharan Africa’s second-largest oil producer after Nigeria has steadily expanded diamond production as part of broader efforts to diversify its resource sector.

However, the industry continues to face headwinds, including declining global diamond prices and intensifying competition from synthetic diamonds, which are gaining market share in key consumer markets.

“Despite this challenging environment, Angola has demonstrated encouraging performance, positioning itself as a relevant, resilient and increasingly credible player in the global diamond industry,” Victor added.

Separately, Angola is pursuing a 20% to 30% stake in De Beers Group, the diamond unit of Anglo American, which has been put up for sale amid subdued market conditions in the global diamond sector.
