Lobito Corridor: Key to Angola’s Economic Development and Investment Opportunities

The Lobito Corridor is currently a major infrastructure route that handles large volumes of goods for export and domestic use.

This was highlighted by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Lobito, Celso Rosas, who spoke to the press recently in Huambo, during the 1st Investment Opportunities Forum along the Lobito Corridor, which took place last Friday.

He noted that the effects of the Lobito Corridor are evident, with significant quantities of various products, especially minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo, arriving through the Benguela Railway Line. These are then transported by ships to various destinations around the world.

Celso Rosas acknowledged the Angolan government’s efforts in resolving citizens’ issues through the implementation of robust projects that are driving the country’s development.

Adérito Areias, an entrepreneur from Benguela province, stated that the 1st Investment Opportunities Forum was a valuable experience.

It provided a platform for dialogue between government members, investors in the productive sector, and the banking industry to discuss issues related to the country’s economic development.

“The interaction between government members and businesspeople is extremely positive because it strengthens the expectations that the banking sector has for investing in small, medium, and large producers, promoting production and boosting the economy,” Areias said.

He emphasized that the Lobito Corridor is essential for the business community, as it will facilitate the transport of goods from Lobito to Luau, driving development and creating added value for local populations.

Raul Chiwewe, an entrepreneur from Huambo province, praised the Lobito Corridor’s potential, noting that it is enabling the importation of a wide range of products to Southern Africa and the rest of the world.

“We are motivated to produce a diverse range of goods, but we also seek support from the banking sector to finance projects and increase production volumes, particularly in agribusiness,” Chiwewe said.

Chiwewe, who has also invested in agriculture, pointed out that he is producing large quantities of maize, thanks to the transportation conditions provided by the Lobito Corridor.
