Lake Victoria Gold Moves Imwelo Gold Project Closer to Construction with EPCM Appointment
Lake Victoria Gold has appointed City Engineering Company (CECL) as the primary engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contractor for its Imwelo gold project in northwestern Tanzania.
The appointment, made through Lake Victoria Gold’s subsidiary Tembo Gold, which holds Mining Licence ML 538/2015 for Imwelo, was approved by Tanzania’s Mining Commission on June 29 and complies with the country’s 2018 Mining Regulations.
CECL will lead project delivery with support from Sutton Consulting International as international technical partner.
The EPCM structure brings together ongoing engineering and development activities under a Tanzanian-led framework.
Key workstreams include tailings and water infrastructure design, geotechnical and hydrogeological studies, process plant optimisation, procurement planning and construction quality assurance.
Lake Victoria Gold said the appointment marks a major milestone as it advances Imwelo towards final engineering, construction preparation and project development.
The company is also progressing financing discussions, including a previously announced gold loan term sheet of up to $25-million with Monetary Metals & Co, which remains subject to regulatory approvals and completion of conditions.
Lake Victoria Gold president and CEO Marc Cernovitch said the EPCM approval represents an important step towards developing one of Tanzania’s next gold mines.
He added that partnering with Tanzanian-led engineering firms while incorporating international technical expertise supports the company’s commitment to local participation and compliant project execution.
