The discussions took place between Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and Namibia’s Minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy, Modestus Tshitumbe Amutse. Also in attendance was Angola’s Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos.
According to a statement from the Angolan Ministry of Energy and Water, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

“During the meeting, the delegations reviewed the status of energy cooperation projects between the two countries, with particular emphasis on the Angola-Namibia electrical interconnection, including the power purchase agreement that will guide future electricity trade,” the statement said.
The interconnection project aims to link the electrical systems of both countries, marking an important step toward regional energy integration and ensuring a secure and reliable energy supply.
In addition, the parties discussed the Baynes Binational Hydroelectric Project, a strategic initiative designed to enhance energy cooperation and utilize the hydropower potential of the Cunene River.
