Egypt to Launch New Gas Exploration Licensing Round in August

Egypt to Offer Offshore and Onshore Gas Exploration Blocks to International Firms in August

Egypt is set to allocate a new round of gas exploration blocks to international energy companies in August, as part of its ongoing strategy to boost natural gas production and attract foreign investment into the country’s energy sector.

The upcoming concessions include large onshore and offshore areas, primarily located in the northern and northeastern regions, with significant portions situated in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Egypt’s state-owned natural gas company is leading the licensing round, offering a strategic mix of exploration sites across key hydrocarbon zones.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the licensing round has attracted strong interest, particularly for high-potential areas such as the Mediterranean Sea, Gulf of Suez, and the Western Desert.

This initiative supports Egypt’s broader goal of positioning itself as a regional energy hub while enhancing domestic gas supply through increased exploration activity.

The winning bidders are expected to be announced in August, and successful companies will be granted rights to explore designated blocks spanning extensive offshore and onshore territories, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean basin.

The move reinforces Egypt’s commitment to leveraging its strategic location and natural resources to stimulate long-term energy development and economic growth.
