Roc Oil Confirms Commercial Discovery at East Yidma-1 Offshore Egypt
Roc Oil has confirmed a commercial oil discovery at the East Yidma-1 exploration well in Egypt’s offshore Gulf of Suez, strengthening the company’s exploration position in one of the country’s established hydrocarbon regions.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,150 metres and encountered 34 metres of net oil pay across the Matulla and Nubia formations.
Roc Oil said the results met pre-drill expectations and have provided a better understanding of the field’s geological structure and productive potential.
Well evaluation indicated good reservoir quality, with average porosity of 18% in the Matulla Formation and 16% in the Nubia Formation.
The discovery extends the known productive limits of the field and could support further appraisal and development activity in the area.
Roc Oil Executive Chairman Richard Metcalfe said the result demonstrates the company’s ability to identify and advance exploration opportunities in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez.
The company is now expected to undertake further evaluation of the discovery as it assesses the potential for future development.
The result adds momentum to Egypt’s efforts to sustain oil and gas exploration and attract investment into its upstream sector, while reinforcing the Gulf of Suez’s importance to the country’s energy industry.
