New Lead Mining Plant Begins Trial Operations in Serra da Kanda, Producing 500 Tons Daily
A lead mining plant capable of producing 500 tons of lead per day has been operating on an experimental basis since the second half of this year in the Serra da Kanda municipality, Zaire province.
According to Ana Matondo, the communal administrator of the newly established mountainous municipality, the plant is the result of private Chinese investment that began its installation in 2021 in the village of Mbemba, within the Kimpangu regency.
Matondo explained that the company Golden Fortuner Miner Service holds a seven-year renewable exploration license, and prospecting activities for lead began in 2019.
She noted that the facility is expected to contribute significantly to the socioeconomic development of the area—formerly part of Cuimba municipality—by creating more than 200 jobs for local youth.
The administrator added that the licensing process for the commercialization and export of the lead currently being produced and stored by the company is already underway.
She further revealed that the project also plans to explore iron and zinc in the near future, as these minerals are abundant in the border region adjoining Uíge province.
Matondo encouraged both national and foreign investors to seize the opportunities available in Serra da Kanda, highlighting the region’s strong potential across several sectors.
