Chevron Brings South N’dola Oil and Gas Field Online in Angola’s Block 0
Chevron has started oil and gas production from the South N’dola field in Angola’s offshore Block 0, marking another step in the company’s strategy to boost output from its mature offshore assets.
The development includes a new production platform that is tied back to the Mafumeira processing facility. Production from South N’dola is processed at Mafumeira before being transported to an export terminal, Chevron said.
The company noted that leveraging available capacity in existing infrastructure enabled a more efficient development and reduced overall project costs.
Chevron did not disclose production volumes for the South N’dola field. However, it said Block 0, where the field is located in Area B, accounts for approximately 12 percent of Angola’s total daily energy production.
The project generated more than 800 local jobs during the construction phase and is now delivering oil and gas to onshore processing facilities in Angola.
Chevron operates Block 0 through Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC), in which it holds a 39.2 percent interest.
Brent Gros, president of Chevron Offshore, said achieving first oil at South N’dola underscores the company’s focus on maximizing production from its established offshore portfolio in Angola.
Chevron currently operates two offshore concessions in the country through CABGOC: Block 0 and Block 14. Block 0 comprises 21 fields, with Lifua A being the first to be developed.
In late 2024, Chevron also brought a gas project in Block 0 into operation to supply the Angola LNG plant as well as domestic power generation facilities.
Under the first phase of the Sanha Lean Gas Connection project, an additional 80 million cubic feet per day of gas is now being delivered to Angola LNG.
Previously, the plant received around 300 million cubic feet per day via the Congo River Crossing pipeline.
Chevron said the next phase will involve commissioning a booster compression module, which is expected to add 220 million cubic feet per day and increase the pipeline’s total capacity to 600 million cubic feet per day.
CABGOC holds a 36.4 percent interest in Angola LNG. Angola’s state oil company owns 22.8 percent, Azule Energy holds 27.2 percent, and TotalEnergies owns the remaining 13.6 percent.
