The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) has signed two new contracts with three companies to share onshore oil production in Blocks CON 3 and KON 15, located in Angola’s Lower Congo and Kwanza Basins, respectively.
The agreements, signed on Monday, involve Walcot, which will operate Block CON 3, and a consortium of Sonangol and Afentra, which will jointly operate Block KON 15.
The ceremony was attended by Alcides Andrade, Executive Director of ANPG; Cristopher Ezea, President of Walcot Group; and Katila Tati, General Director of Afentra.
According to Angop, these contracts stem from the government’s 2023 bidding round for new oil blocks. The agreements mark a significant step toward revitalizing Angola’s onshore oil sector.
Speaking at the event, ANPG’s Alcides Andrade stated that the signing signals the official start of activities in the designated blocks.
He emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to counter declining national oil production and support the government’s medium-term energy objectives.
“These are new concessions that will be developed to bring new production online in the medium term, helping ensure the sustainability of Angola’s oil output,” Andrade said.
He also noted that in 2024, Angola exceeded its oil production forecast by over 34,000 barrels, achieving an average of more than 1.1 million barrels per day.
