Africell Expands Digital Services in Angola Through Lobito Corridor

Africell is leveraging the Lobito Corridor to expand its digital technology and internet services across Angola, aligning with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Development Plan (NDP) 2023-2027.

The announcement was made by Jorge Vazquez, CEO of Africell Angola, during the company’s 25th-anniversary celebration in Luanda.

He highlighted Angola’s market potential and the strong relationship between the Angolan government and the United States as key factors in Africell’s success.

The company aims to position Angola as a telecommunications hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Africell is committed to Angola’s digital transformation and regional economic integration. By participating in projects like the Lobito Corridor, the company seeks to enhance trade, connectivity, and economic ties between Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Since entering the Angolan market in 2023, Africell has focused on providing high-quality, accessible digital services to drive nationwide connectivity.

The company has invested approximately $300 million in Angola and plans to increase this amount over the next two years as it expands into more provinces.

Currently operating in four provinces, Africell has built a robust infrastructure despite challenges such as equipment shortages for signal transmission.

The company has installed 800 telecom sites, enabling 17 million Angolans to access high-speed telecommunications. The expansion strategy includes deploying infrastructure in two additional provinces by the end of the year.

In just three years, Africell has created 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, supporting numerous individuals through its supply chain and partnerships.

The company remains committed to workforce development, offering training and career growth opportunities.

Africell’s mobile money platform, Afrimoney, launched in 2023, has significantly boosted financial inclusion by providing mobile payment solutions for all social groups, including those without access to traditional banking.

According to Vazquez, Afrimoney has made everyday transactions more convenient, facilitating payments for retail purchases, transportation, and essential services like water and electricity.

Beyond connectivity and financial services, Africell is dedicated to social impact. Through the Africell Impact Foundation, the company collaborates with partners to invest in projects focused on education, sports, arts, and culture, reinforcing its commitment to community development.
