Sociedade Mineira do Luele has achieved an impressive milestone, producing over 4.4 million carats of diamonds during its inaugural year of operations.
This achievement was announced by Romulo Mucase, Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA), during a speech on Saturday marking the mine’s first anniversary.
The facility was officially inaugurated by President João Lourenço in November last year.
According to a statement from Endiama, shared by VerAngola, Mucase praised the team’s efforts in overcoming challenges to establish the company administratively, execute geological and mining programs, stabilize production, enhance human capital, and implement sustainability initiatives.
“Our commitment to supporting communities with sustainable projects remains a top priority,” Mucase emphasized, highlighting progress on the construction of 300 social houses to resettle communities near mining areas. The project has achieved over 40% physical completion.
He also revealed that the company has grown its workforce to 2,441 employees, an increase of 1,058 jobs compared to the previous year.
The anniversary celebration was attended by several dignitaries, including Paulo Tanganha, National Director of Mineral Resources; Laureano Receado Paulo, Executive Director of Endiama; Jacinto Rocha, PCA of the National Mineral Resources Agency (ANRM); and José Manuel from the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), among others.
