Angola Becomes World’s Third-Largest Diamond Producer with 15.2 Million Carats in 2025
Angola has cemented its position as one of the world’s leading diamond-producing nations, ranking as the third-largest producer of natural rough diamonds in 2025 with an output of 15.2 million carats.
The achievement highlights the continued growth of Angola’s mining sector and underscores the country’s increasing influence in the global diamond industry.
According to figures released by the government, Angola trails only Russia and Botswana in total diamond production, surpassing several established mining jurisdictions.
Russia maintained the top position with production of more than 31 million carats, while Botswana produced approximately 15.5 million carats.
Angola’s 15.2 million-carat output placed it ahead of Canada and the Democratic Republic of Congo, which completed the global top five ranking.
Government officials attributed the strong performance to sustained investment in the diamond sector, the development of new mining projects, improvements in operational efficiency and ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment into the country’s mineral resources industry.
The ranking also reflects Angola’s broader strategy of leveraging its vast natural resource base to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues.
Diamonds remain one of the country’s most important non-oil export commodities and continue to play a critical role in generating foreign exchange earnings and supporting economic development.
Authorities say continued reforms aimed at increasing transparency across the diamond value chain and improving investment conditions have helped strengthen confidence in Angola’s mining industry.
These measures have positioned the country as an increasingly attractive destination for international mining investors seeking exposure to one of Africa’s most significant diamond-producing regions.
With production reaching 15.2 million carats, Angola has reinforced its status as a major player in the global diamond market and a key contributor to worldwide rough diamond supply.
The performance is expected to further enhance the country’s international standing while supporting long-term economic diversification and growth.
