BRIMONT CEO Calls for Stronger Angolan Participation in Oil and Gas Industry
Angolan companies remain underrepresented in the country’s oil and gas industry despite growing technical capacity and an increasing number of locally qualified and certified firms, according to BRIMONT CEO Francisco Monteiro.
Speaking after the 2026 Angola Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition in Luanda, Monteiro said the country had made progress in developing local companies capable of meeting international industry standards.
However, he said the economic impact of their participation remained below Angola’s potential.
Monteiro said the focus should move beyond simply increasing the number of Angolan companies involved in the sector towards retaining greater value, technical expertise, production capacity and knowledge within the country.
He called for stronger cooperation between local companies, international operators and the State, supported by access to financing, technology transfer, skills development and predictable commercial opportunities.
Monteiro also highlighted financing as a key constraint on the growth of Angolan oil and gas service companies, particularly those required to purchase equipment, technology and other inputs from international suppliers.
He said local content policies should not shield domestic companies from competition but should help them develop the scale, technical capabilities and competitiveness required to secure contracts in Angola and eventually compete in international markets.
According to Monteiro, the next phase of Angola’s local content strategy should therefore focus on building stronger domestic value chains, increasing local manufacturing and technical expertise, creating skilled employment and enabling Angolan companies to take a larger share of the oil and gas value chain.
BRIMONT, which provides industrial and specialised services to the oil and gas industry, was recognised in 2026 for its contribution to local content development in Angola.
