Kavango appoints Jasper Musadaidzwa as CEO to lead Zimbabwe gold growth

London- and Victoria Falls Stock Exchange-listed Kavango Resources has appointed Zimbabwean mining executive Jasper Musadaidzwa as Chief Executive Officer and executive director, effective immediately.

Musadaidzwa succeeds Donald McAlister, who has stepped down as interim CEO and will now serve as executive chairperson.

The appointment comes as Kavango develops its operational platform in Zimbabwe and advances its transition towards becoming a gold producer while continuing exploration across its wider Southern African portfolio.

Musadaidzwa brings more than 27 years of mining experience, including 17 years with AngloGold Ashanti, where he held senior operational and executive positions across Africa.

Most recently, he served as senior vice-president of AngloGold Ashanti’s Guinea business.

During his tenure, he led an operational and financial turnaround that extended the operation’s life of mine from 2026 to 2034, doubled its net present value and restored sustainable cash generation.

He previously served as senior vice-president for AngloGold Ashanti’s Africa operations, overseeing four mines in Ghana, Tanzania, Mali and Guinea.

Collectively, the operations produced about 1.1 million ounces of gold annually, generated approximately $2 billion in revenue and employed more than 14,000 people.

His earlier roles included managing the Iduapriem gold mine in Ghana and holding operational positions at the Siguiri mine in Guinea and Geita mine in Tanzania.

He began his mining career in Zimbabwe and also worked for Anglo American at the Skorpion zinc mine in Namibia.

Musadaidzwa said his immediate priority would be to strengthen Kavango’s operational capabilities and build on the company’s existing platform as it works towards becoming a sustainable, cash-generative mining business.

His appointment follows Kavango’s recent progress at its Hillside Gold Project in Zimbabwe, where commissioning of a processing plant began in August.

4The company also continues to advance its exploration portfolio in Southern Africa, including copper exploration opportunities in Botswana.
