Mozambique Restarts 30 MW Dondo Solar Tender to Expand Renewable Energy Capacity and Attract Private Investment
The Government of Mozambique has relaunched the tender process for a 30 MW solar photovoltaic project in the Dondo district of Sofala Province as part of ongoing efforts to expand the country’s renewable energy capacity.
The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is overseeing the process in partnership with the Energy Regulatory Authority.
The tender includes a request for pre-qualification aimed at selecting an independent power producer to develop, finance, construct, and operate the solar project.
The project falls under Mozambique’s Renewable Energy Auctions Promotion Program, launched in 2020 to increase electricity generation, diversify the national energy mix, and attract private sector investment through competitive bidding.
Supported by the European Union and implemented with assistance from Agence Française de Développement, the program targets the development of approximately 120 MW of solar and wind energy capacity across the country.
Interested developers are required to submit expressions of interest by June 22, 2026, with authorities expected to proceed to the request for proposals stage later in the year.
The relaunch of the tender highlights Mozambique’s continued push to accelerate clean energy development and strengthen the resilience of its power sector through increased renewable energy investment.
