Prices of imported goods rose another 11% in 2023

In 2023, Angola recorded an increase of 11.7 percent in the prices of imported goods, with emphasis on food, while exported goods increased by 19.2 percent, driven by oil, indicates the Angolan National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the 2023 Yearbook of Price Indices for Export and Import Goods, the relevant increase stood out in the group of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, with 46.7 percent, chemicals, with 45.2, and products food, with 32.2.

The increase in import prices was mitigated by the negative contribution of machinery and equipment, with 1.1 percent less, and wood and cork, with 2.5 percent less.

Last year, the country also recorded a 19.2 percent increase in the prices of exported goods, thanks to oil, the product that weighs most on exports, which increased by 20.1 percent compared to the value recorded in the previous year. .

In the period under analysis, the product groups with the greatest increase in export prices were alcoholic beverages and tobacco (83.8 percent), cellulosic pulp and paper (68.7 percent) and minerals and ores (32.5 percent), while agricultural products and live animals (-29.6), pearls, precious stones and metals and jewelry (-5.3) recorded a decrease.

According to INE, the working basis of this publication is foreign trade statistics, which, based on records from the Ministries of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Agriculture and Forestry, Fisheries and Marine Resources and General Tax Administration, of the Ministry of Finance, which represent all exports and imports of goods carried out by the country during 2023.
