Chinese shipbuilding firm HRDD achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday in Shanghai, China, as they completed the lifting and installation of the inaugural module for the structural framework of the Floating Production, Offloading, and Storage Unit (FPSO) Agogo.
This operation, deemed crucial by Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, holds promise for stabilizing oil production in Angola.
Minister Diamantino Azevedo, present at the event by invitation from HRDD, voiced his optimism regarding the FPSO Agogo’s construction, foreseeing its potential to bolster Angola’s oil production and offset the natural decline in output.
The initial construction module marks the inception of Block 15/06, operated by Azule Energy, with further modules sourced from various international locations including Singapore, Dubai, Indonesia, France, Norway, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and within Angola itself (Sonamet and Ambriz).
Acknowledging the significance of the first module’s construction, Minister Diamantino Azevedo emphasized the bilateral commitment between Angola and China towards fostering cooperation and economic development.
He highlighted the project’s alignment with the mutual interests of both nations, stressing its contribution to economic and social advancement.
Scheduled for installation in the first half of 2026, the FPSO Agogo project embodies principles of Sino-Angolan collaboration, emphasizing knowledge transfer to Angola and skill development among local workforce, thereby propelling the growth of the country’s oil and gas sector.
Minister Azevedo commended the Block 15/06 contractor group, overseen by the Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency, for their strategic selection of project partners, marking it as yet another achievement in their endeavors.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Minister Azevedo noted its alignment with the recent visit of President João Lourenço to China, during which a Business Forum in Beijing showcased the economic potential and opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.
In attendance at the ceremony were key figures including the Presidents of the Board of Directors of the National Agency, Oil, and Gas (ANPG), Sonangol, and executives from Azule Energy.
The development of the Agogo oil field, situated in Block 15/06 offshore Angola, signifies a substantial advancement in the nation’s oil exploration efforts.
With impressive processing capacities for oil, gas, and water, the FPSO Agogo project holds promise for enhancing Angola’s position in the global energy landscape.
