The procedure stands as a vital requirement within the framework of the respective organization, necessitating the disclosure of annual efforts made by Member States.
This includes the Work Plan adhering to EITI standards, unlike the Annual Report, which primarily communicates the value of natural resources to citizens.
Angola, an active EITI member since June 2022, took a significant stride by presenting its inaugural report in December 2023.
This presentation marked an essential phase, with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas setting up mechanisms for regular subsequent reporting.
EITI functions as a voluntary platform fostering transparency and responsible management of mining and oil revenues, embraced by participating countries and industry-operating entities.
Led by Minister Diamantino Azevedo of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, the CNC comprises an executive director, deputy director, administrative and financial director, secretariat, and national multisectoral group.
Among its members are representatives from Sonangol, AzuleEnergy, TotalEnergies, Endiama, Sidiam, Community Action for the Development of Angola (ACDA), Action for Rural Development of Angola (ADRA), Youth Association for Community Development of Angola (AJUDECA), Ecological Youth of Angola (JEA), and Mwana Pwo representatives.
Benefits
During the ceremony sanctioning the First Report, Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor, remarked in Luanda that adherence to rules and procedures instills confidence in potential investors in the sector.
José Malanga, the CNC’s executive director, emphasized the report’s significance for the economy, portraying the Executive’s commitment to managing resources transparently for the citizens’ welfare.
The appointment of CNC members occurs independently within constituent sectors, ensuring an election process in line with representativeness and transparency criteria. Invited public officials may attend sessions but lack voting rights on resolutions.
