Angola’s First Gold Refinery Targets End-2026 Launch with 25kg Daily Capacity
Angola is advancing the development of its first gold refinery, with commissioning and technical training now underway ahead of a planned launch by the end of 2026.
Located at the Viana Industrial Park in Luanda, the 3,789.95-square-metre facility will have the capacity to process up to 25 kilograms of gold per day.
It will include a refinery, laboratory and public assay office for testing and certifying the purity of gold, silver and platinum.
Current activities include equipment testing and training Angolan personnel in gold testing, casting, refining and certification. This phase is expected to be completed by September 2026.
The refinery is expected to strengthen Angola’s domestic mineral beneficiation by adding value to locally produced gold rather than exporting it for processing elsewhere.
The facility will support output from Angola’s growing gold industry, which currently includes 49 gold exploration projects and four projects already in production, representing more than $120 million in investment.
Following its launch, the refinery plans to pursue international certifications, including ISO standards and accreditation from international bodies such as the London Bullion Market Association.
The project marks an important step in Angola’s efforts to diversify its mining sector, increase local value addition and develop domestic capacity across the gold value chain.
