French Energy Companies Strengthen Angola Presence Amid $18 Billion Investment Portfolio
A French business delegation from the energy sector arrived in Angola this week to explore investment opportunities, at a time when French investment in the country exceeds $18 billion.
“We have a business mission with ten companies,” said Sophie Aubert, French Ambassador to Angola, during a press briefing in Luanda.
“They are not only here to make contacts but also to establish operations and grow their businesses in Angola.”
The mission focuses primarily on the oil and energy sectors and is organized by Business France and EVOLEN, the French energy association.
It runs through Friday, coinciding with the Angola Oil & Gas 2025 international conference.
The delegation aims to strengthen French presence in Angola’s energy sector, with an emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and decarbonization.
According to Ambassador Aubert, approximately 110–120 French companies currently operate in Angola, including 65 direct subsidiaries of French groups generating around six billion euros in annual revenue.
French enterprises employ roughly 30,000 people, making them the third-largest private employer in Angola.
TotalEnergies leads French activity in Angola, with stakes in multiple offshore oil blocks and strategic gas projects, representing a significant portion of French direct investment in the country.
When asked about challenges for business, the ambassador emphasized the importance of predictability and streamlined processes to attract additional investment.
The mission also highlights the strengthening of Franco-Angolan relations, following reciprocal state visits over the past two years and Angola’s accession to the International Organization of La Francophonie in October 2024.
“France seeks friendly relations with all African nations, regardless of language,” Aubert said, underlining the mutual commitment to collaboration with Angola.
