Chevron Expands LNG and Deepwater Oil Operations in Angola

Chevron Advances Angola’s Gas and Deepwater Oil Development

Energy giant Chevron continues to play a significant role in Angola’s growing oil and gas sector, focusing on expanding natural gas development and deepwater oil opportunities.

The company’s efforts support Angola’s economic diversification and aim to strengthen its position as a key LNG exporter.

Chevron’s involvement in Angola includes the Sanha Lean Gas Connection project, which began producing gas in December 2024.

This project, led by Chevron’s subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC), delivers natural gas from Block 0 to the Soyo power plants and Angola LNG (ALNG) plant, the country’s only LNG facility.

With an initial capacity of 80 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), the project’s second phase will add 220 mmscf/d, targeting a total feedstock increase of 300 mmscf/d to ALNG, doubling its capacity to 600 mmscf/d.

Chevron is also a key participant in Angola’s first non-associated gas project, developed by the New Gas Consortium—comprising Azule Energy, CABGOC, Sonangol E&P, and TotalEnergies.

Set to begin production by late 2025 or early 2026, this project involves developing the Quilluma and Maboqueiro shallow water gas fields.

The completion of Q&M platforms marks a major milestone in expanding Angola’s gas infrastructure and LNG export potential.

In the deepwater oil sector, Chevron has recently acquired Risk Service Contracts for ultra-deepwater Blocks 49 and 50 in Angola’s Lower Congo Basin.

Awarded in January 2024, these contracts allow Chevron to conduct seismic studies and advance exploration activities.

The company also operates in Blocks 0 and 14, strengthening its presence in Angola’s offshore oil landscape.

Chevron’s continued investments and projects underscore its commitment to Angola’s energy future, supporting both gas development and deepwater oil exploration while fostering new collaborations and growth opportunities in the region.
