Sintana Energy’s Mopane-2X Well Strengthens Namibia’s Offshore Oil Potential
Sintana Energy has successfully completed drilling operations at the Mopane-2X well in Namibia’s PEL 83 offshore block, confirming the presence of high-quality light oil and further strengthening the exploration potential of the Mopane complex.
The discovery adds to growing evidence that PEL 83 is emerging as one of Namibia’s most promising hydrocarbon regions, with results expected to support future development opportunities and Sintana Energy’s long-term growth strategy.
Sintana holds a 49% indirect interest in Custos Energy, which has a 10% working interest in PEL 83 alongside project partners Galp and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR).
Following the drilling campaign, Galp will analyse the newly acquired geological and reservoir data to determine the commercial viability of the discoveries.
The outcome of this evaluation will guide future appraisal activities, development decisions and investment plans for the block.
The Mopane-2X well represents the third light oil discovery within the Mopane complex. Combined with appraisal results from the AVO-1 reservoir, the latest findings have increased confidence in the scale and quality of the offshore resource.
The continued exploration success in PEL 83 reinforces Namibia’s growing position as a major emerging destination for global oil and gas investment.
Further development of the Mopane complex could attract additional capital into the country’s energy sector, create economic opportunities and support Namibia’s broader ambitions to develop its petroleum resources.
