Angola Keeps Oil and Gas Sector Open to Private Investment to Drive Growth and Exploration
Angola has reaffirmed its commitment to attracting private investment into its oil and gas industry, underscoring the critical role of the private sector in sustaining production, expanding exploration, and supporting the country’s long-term energy ambitions.
Speaking during a meeting with industry stakeholders, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Azevedo said Angola remains open to both domestic and international investors.
He stressed that partnerships with private companies are essential to unlocking the full potential of the country’s petroleum sector and ensuring continued growth.
The minister noted that the government is focused on maintaining a stable, transparent, and competitive investment environment.
Ongoing reforms are designed to improve the ease of doing business, strengthen regulatory certainty, and encourage greater investment across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the industry.
Over the past several years, Angola has introduced a range of measures to attract new investment, including competitive licensing rounds, fiscal incentives, and policies aimed at extending the life of mature oil fields while encouraging exploration in frontier basins.
These initiatives form part of the government’s broader strategy to sustain oil production and secure the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading energy producers.
In addition to crude oil, Angola is accelerating the development of its natural gas sector as part of efforts to diversify its energy industry and create greater value from its hydrocarbon resources.
Investments in gas processing, refining capacity, and downstream industries are expected to strengthen energy security, support industrialisation, and generate new economic opportunities.
The government also continues to place strong emphasis on local content development, encouraging investors to create employment opportunities, transfer technology, and support the growth of Angolan businesses within the energy value chain.
According to Minister Azevedo, continued collaboration between the government and private investors will be instrumental in advancing new projects, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the sustainable development of Angola’s oil and gas sector.
As global energy markets continue to evolve, Angola remains committed to positioning itself as an attractive investment destination by fostering a business-friendly environment that supports innovation, long-term partnerships, and responsible resource development.
