Angola’s Oil and Gas Dominate Economy with $27.7 Billion in Export Revenues in 2025

Angola’s Oil and Gas Exports Reach $27.7 Billion in 2025 as Production Exceeds One Million Barrels Per Day and China Leads Purchases

Angola’s economy continued to be heavily driven by its oil and gas sector in 2025, which generated the vast majority of export earnings, according to data from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas.

Crude oil remained the country’s dominant export commodity, earning approximately US$24.5 billion over the year.

Natural gas contributed a further US$3.24 billion, while refined petroleum products added around US$429 million, bringing total hydrocarbons export revenue to roughly US$28 billion.

The report indicates that Angola produced 378.4 million barrels of crude oil in 2025, maintaining an average output of just over one million barrels per day, reflecting stable production levels despite global market fluctuations. China remained the largest destination for Angolan crude, accounting for 58.42% of total exports.

Beyond export performance, the oil sector also remained central to public finances. It contributed 13.94% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provided 57.25% of total state tax revenues, underscoring its continued importance to fiscal stability and national development funding.

The data further highlights Angola’s continued dependence on hydrocarbons, which together accounted for 97.88% of total national exports.

This concentration reinforces the strategic role of oil and gas in sustaining foreign exchange inflows and supporting government revenue.

Despite diversification efforts in other sectors, the oil and gas industry remains the backbone of Angola’s external trade and economic structure.
