Angola Inaugurates New Diamond Processing Plant in Lunda Norte to Boost Output

Angola Opens $9M Diamond Processing Plant in Lunda Norte, Increasing Capacity by 140%

The Governor of Lunda Norte, Filomena Miza, has inaugurated a new Recovery and Processing Plant (CRP) at the Chitotolo Mining Company, marking a significant investment in Angola’s diamond sector.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, alongside other government and industry officials.

Production boost and job creation

Miza said the new plant is expected to significantly increase production levels while creating employment opportunities, contributing to improved livelihoods and sustainable economic development in the province.

She emphasised the importance of such investments in supporting regional growth, particularly in Lunda Norte, one of Angola’s key diamond-producing areas.

Call for stronger social responsibility

The governor also reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to addressing local development challenges and called for closer collaboration between the public and private sectors.

She urged mining companies to strengthen their social responsibility initiatives, encouraging continued investment in projects that directly benefit surrounding communities.

Investment and capacity expansion

The new facility represents an investment of approximately $9 million by the Chitotolo Mining Company.

According to Board Chairman Artur Gonçalves, the plant will increase ore processing capacity by 140%, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and output.

The development underscores Angola’s ongoing efforts to modernise its mining sector and maximise value from its diamond resources.
