Dakar LNG Terminal Project Set to Strengthen Senegal’s Energy Security

GasEntec and ELTON Partner to Deliver Dakar LNG Terminal, Boosting Senegal’s Power Capacity by 2027

GasEntec has signed contracts with ELTON Logistics & Services to supply a jetty-based LNG regasification unit along with associated onshore infrastructure for the Dakar LNG Terminal in Senegal.

The project marks a major step toward expanding Senegal’s energy capacity and is expected to become one of West Africa’s leading LNG import facilities.

Once completed, the terminal will supply natural gas to a 300MW combined-cycle power plant in Cap des Biches, Dakar currently the country’s largest as well as to other power plants, industrial users, and regional customers.

Senegal is actively working to diversify its energy mix, reduce reliance on traditional fuels, and support broader economic and industrial development.

The project was fast-tracked to address urgent power sector needs, underscoring its importance for short-term energy security.

GasEntec aims to deliver first gas on an accelerated schedule, with full commercial operations targeted for the first half of 2027.

Babacar Tall, CEO of ELTON Logistics & Services, described the terminal as a critical milestone for enhancing energy security and supporting Senegal’s expanding industrial base. He also expressed confidence in GasEntec’s expertise in LNG regasification.

The Dakar LNG Terminal is expected to enable more reliable power generation while providing a stable and flexible energy supply for industrial users.

By facilitating LNG imports, the facility will help bridge existing energy gaps and support a transition toward cleaner fuel options.

Arieh Mimran, Chairman of GasEntec, stated that the company is proud to contribute to Senegal’s energy transition, describing the project as a key component of the country’s development and long-term energy independence.

The project will utilize GasEntec’s proprietary regasification technology, designed for rapid deployment and operational flexibility.

Its modular configuration is expected to accelerate delivery while maintaining high technical and safety standards.

Joongin Ko, Chief Project Officer at GasEntec, noted that the initiative demonstrates the company’s ability to deploy advanced LNG solutions efficiently while meeting stringent project requirements.

Headquartered in South Korea, GasEntec has delivered LNG projects across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, working with governments, utilities, and industrial clients.

The Dakar LNG Terminal further strengthens GasEntec’s footprint in Africa and reinforces its role in delivering LNG infrastructure in emerging markets.

As Senegal positions itself as a regional energy hub, the project will play a key role in meeting immediate power demand while supporting long-term economic growth through reliable energy infrastructure.
