Shell Reaffirms Commitment to Reviving Angola’s Oil Production

Shell Pledges Support for Angola’s Oil Production Revival as Company Returns After 20 Years

Shell has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Angola’s efforts to revive and expand oil production as the global energy company moves to re-establish its presence in the country after a 20-year absence.

The commitment was highlighted by Alioune Sourang, CEO of Shell in Angola, following a meeting with Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Shell and the Angolan government as the company repositions itself in the country’s energy sector.

During the discussions, Sourang reaffirmed Shell’s intention to support the government’s strategy to revitalize oil production, while also promoting skills development for local professionals, job creation, and community development initiatives.

Sourang also praised the Angolan government for its collaborative approach during the process of the company’s return to the market.

He described the discussions with the ministry as constructive and emphasized the government’s openness in facilitating Shell’s renewed engagement in the country.

The meeting also addressed Shell’s partnership with the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) as part of the company’s broader plan to rebuild its operations in Angola.

Shell aims to contribute to the sector’s strategic goals, particularly efforts to reverse declining oil production and strengthen the country’s energy industry.

Shell’s return follows an agreement signed last year between the company and Angola’s national oil concessionaire covering the exploration and development of 17 ultra-deepwater blocks.

The project involves an initial investment of nearly $1 billion, marking a significant step in the company’s renewed commitment to Angola’s upstream oil sector.

Through these initiatives, Shell plans to play a role in boosting Angola’s oil output, building local capacity, and supporting economic growth in the communities where it operates.
