Egypt Launches New Offshore Gas Exploration with Valaris DS-12 Drillship

Egypt Deploys Valaris DS-12 to Boost Offshore Gas Exploration and Production

Egypt has entered a new phase of offshore gas exploration with the arrival of the drillship Valaris DS-12 in its territorial waters.

The deployment marks the start of a drilling program targeting four new wells in Egypt’s offshore fields.

The drillship will initially drill one production well and one exploratory well for BP. Subsequently, it will drill two additional exploratory wells for Arcius Energy, a partnership between BP and ADNOC.

Major international energy firms are showing renewed interest in Egypt’s energy sector, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s investment environment.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has supported this momentum by implementing reforms and incentives aimed at accelerating exploration, development, and production activities.

2026 Exploration Strategy

As part of its 2026 strategy, the ministry and its partners plan to drill over 100 exploratory wells along with multiple development wells across existing fields.

This initiative is designed to maximize the country’s oil and gas resources, encourage new discoveries, and boost production levels.

Expanded offshore exploration is expected to support steady growth in domestic output and drive significant advancements in Egypt’s energy sector over the next five years.
