Diamantino Azevedo and Afreximbank Director Discuss Strategic Projects Including Lobito Corridor

On Monday, Diamantino Azevedo, Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, and Eric Monchu Intong, Director of Regional Operations and Head of Mission for Anglophone West Africa at Afreximbank, met to discuss several key projects aimed at supporting the Angolan economy.

The focus of the meeting included the Lobito Corridor, the Amufert fertilizer factory, and other mining and oil initiatives.

Intong emphasized Angola’s role as current chair of the African Union and highlighted the country’s commitment to infrastructure development both within Angola and across the continent, under the leadership of President João Lourenço.

“We discussed the Lobito Corridor, the Amufert fertilizer plant, and other strategic projects to support Angola’s economy,” Intong said in a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas.

During the meeting, Intong praised the engagement of Angolan government authorities, particularly the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, in advancing strategic projects that aim to boost the country’s economic growth.

Afreximbank’s head reiterated the bank’s commitment to working closely with the Angolan Government and other financial institutions, such as Banco Comercial and the Central Bank, to ensure the success of Angola’s development agenda.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to engage in Angola’s economic movement and contribute to the well-being of its population,” Intong added, underlining Afreximbank’s dedication to Angola’s growth.
