Libya’s NOC and Algeria’s Sonatrach Sign Four Key MoUs to Expand Energy Cooperation in Exploration, Services, and Training
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has signed four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Algeria’s state-owned oil company Sonatrach, strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas of the energy sector.
The agreements were signed at Sonatrach’s headquarters in Algiers and aim to enhance collaboration in operations, oilfield services, training, and knowledge exchange.
The first MoU was signed between the National Geophysical Company (ENAGEO), a subsidiary of Sonatrach, and the North African Geophysical Exploration Company (NAGECO), affiliated with NOC.
This agreement focuses on joint efforts in geophysical exploration, with the goal of advancing subsurface imaging and seismic data analysis.
The second agreement, signed by Sonatrach’s National Well Services Company (ENSP) and Libya’s Al-Jouf Petroleum Technology Company (JOT), outlines the provision of oilfield services in Algeria, Libya, and potentially other international markets. This includes drilling, maintenance, and technical support operations.
A third MoU was reached between Sonatrach’s Exploration and Production–Laboratory Division and Libya’s Petroleum Research Centre.
The two entities committed to collaborating on research initiatives in oil and gas, particularly in areas such as reservoir studies, enhanced oil recovery, and new extraction technologies.
The fourth and final agreement was signed directly between Sonatrach and the NOC. It focuses on expanding training programs and facilitating the transfer of technical expertise and knowledge across all segments of the energy industry.
In a statement, the NOC described these MoUs as a reaffirmation of its long-term strategic partnership with Sonatrach. The agreements, it said, underscore a shared commitment to building sustainable, high-impact collaborations that will benefit the energy sectors of both nations.
