Kosmos Energy Targets 50% Production Growth by Year-End

Energy major Kosmos Energy aims to increase production two-fold by the end of 2024, with milestones achieved across the company’s operations in Ghana, Equatorial Guinea and Senegal/Mauritania supporting this objective.

According to the company’s Chairman and CEO Andrew G. Inglis, “Kosmos has had an active start to the year, continuing the operational and financial momentum we saw in 2023.”

In Ghana, Kosmos Energy brought four wells online at the Jubilee Field in 2024, including one water injector well in January; two producer wells in February and a third producer well in April.

Another water injector well is expected to come online by the end of Q2, following which the company’s planned drilling campaign will conclude – six months ahead of schedule.

Additionally, the interim gas sales agreement for the Jubilee associated gas project has been extended by a further 18 months.

In Q1, 2024, Kosmos Energy’s oil production in Ghana averaged 43,8000 barrels per day (bpd) while the company’s gas production measured 6,100 bpd equivalent at Jubilee and 18,600 bpd equivalent at TEN.

In Equatorial Guinea, Kosmos Energy has secured the Noble Venturer rig to conduct drilling. The rig is expected to arrive at the project site in mid-2024, with two infill wells set to be drilled in Block G and the Akeng Deep ILX project in Block S.

By the end of the 2024, the company expects exit production from the new infill wells to measure 3,000 bpd. The company also anticipates the results of the Akeng Deep well by year-end.

Meanwhile, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project – located on the maritime border of Senegal and Mauritania – is on track for first LNG production by Q4, 2024.

According to Kosmos Energy, the operator has successfully drilled and completed all four wells at the project site, with the project partners projecting a higher-than-expected production capacity for first gas.

Construction is complete for the hub terminal and the FLNG vessel arrived at the project site in Q1, 2024. Subsea work continues to progress, with the flowline installation now complete and final connection work ongoing.

The inspection and repair of the FPSO’s fairleads is complete, and the vessel is en route to the project site – expected by Q3, 2024.

Beyond GTA, Kosmos Energy is working closely with Senegalese NOC Petrosen on the pre-FEED work for the Yakaar-Teranga gas project – situated offshore Senegal.

The partners are looking at developing cost-competitive gas for the local economy as well as developing an offshore LNG facility to facilitate exports.

Kosmos Energy announced plans to farm-down its working interest to approximately 25%-33%, while retaining operatorship of the project.

In Mauritania, while the company’s license for the BirAllah gas project expired in April 2024, Kosmos Energy is engaging with the government to advance gas opportunities across the country.
