Angola-Japan Partnership Boosts Geological Studies with $3 Million Aid

The Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) is set to enhance its geological studies across the country, thanks to a generous non-refundable financial aid of three million dollars from Japan.

The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities during the signing ceremony of the Exchange of Notes on the Implementation of the Economic and Social Development Program in Mineral Resources.

The aid, part of the Cooperation Protocol between IGEO and the National Oil and Gas and Metal Company of Japan, aims to provide essential materials such as transport vehicles, drones, and analysis devices with sensors.

These resources will enable IGEO to conduct its activities efficiently, focusing on identifying promising areas for prospecting and mining exploration in Angola.

Expressing gratitude for Japan’s support, the Secretary of State emphasized the importance of this funding in achieving the outlined objectives of joint studies and geological research.

He highlighted Japan’s reliability as a development partner, citing previous collaborations in various sectors including demining, health, and education.

The longstanding cooperation between Angola and Japan was underscored, with the Secretary of State emphasizing the mutual benefits derived from this partnership. He mentioned the signing of an agreement for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, paving the way for increased investment from Japan in Angola and vice versa in the future.

In response, the Japanese representative valued the donation, noting Japan’s scarcity of mining resources and highlighting the concept of “partners growing together” embedded in the cooperation.

The aid reflects Japan’s commitment to supporting Angola’s development efforts and fostering mutual growth between the two nations.

Overall, the financial aid from Japan marks a significant milestone in Angola’s pursuit of advancing geological studies and unlocking the potential of its mineral resources for sustainable development.
