The Porto-Amboim Naval Shipyard (PAENAL), dedicated to building modules for the oil industry, will start to rely, as of June, on electricity from the public network.
This action will reduce the company’s operating costs, as announced last Tuesday by the director general of the metal-mechanical company.
Luís Barroso considered it opportune to lay the first stone of the project to install electricity from the public network for the Paenal shipyard, as it will allow the company to improve its performance in the various aspects, with strong visibility in the reduction of operating costs.
“Currently, operating costs are around 250,000 euros/year with the purchase of fuel, maintenance of generators and purchase of spare parts. company to new challenges, among which the reduction of operating costs, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, with a view to protecting the environment, in addition to making the company more attractive and competitive”, he said.
Luís Barroso recalled that with the installation of the public electricity network at the Paenal shipyard, in Porto-Amboim, the current financial costs will reduce to around 35 thousand euros, which he considered a gain for the company.
“With Paenal’s connection to the public network, our treasury will save a lot of financial resources, which will be applied to invest in other segments of the company”, he said.
The construction company of the aforementioned branch, in a section of 1,000 meters, CME, guarantees that the line will have a power of 3.2 MVA, with two transformers, with a capacity of 1,600 kva for one to support the normal consumption of the shipyard, while the the second will guarantee the operation of the crane for loading and unloading the equipment built there.
Anibal Antunes added that construction of the line would take between three and four months, with project costs estimated at around 425,000 euros. He referred that the construction process contemplates the construction of a branch, which is about a kilometer away from the shipyard, while the works inside the shipyard will consist of the installation of a new network that will shape the two transformers to be installed, as well as other equipment.
Government guarantees support for new initiatives
The provincial deputy governor of Cuanza-Sul for the Technical and Infrastructure sector, Heitor Alfredo, welcomed the initiative by Paenal’s management, as it is in line with the company’s profitability policy, given the new reality of the national and international market.
Heitor Alfredo acknowledged that with the step taken, replacing the electricity grid, the municipality of Porto-Amboim and the province in general would gain, reiterating that the provincial government will continue to support initiatives that encourage the development of the productive sector.
“The Government is available to support other initiatives of the kind, which boost companies, making them more attractive, competitive and able to provide more jobs for youth and beyond, in addition to contributing to the diversification of the local and national economy of in general. It should also guarantee an increase in workers’ family income, among other benefits for companies and the State itself,” he said.
