Equinor Acquires 30% Stake in Angola Offshore Block 16/21 in Deal with TotalEnergies

Equinor Takes 30% Stake in Angola’s Block 16/21 as TotalEnergies Retains Operatorship in New Offshore Agreement

Equinor has signed an agreement with TotalEnergies to acquire a 30% participating interest in offshore Block 16/21 in Angola.

Under the terms of the deal, TotalEnergies will retain full operatorship of the block. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant Angolan authorities before it can be finalized.

Block 16/21 is currently in the exploration phase and has not yet commenced production. It is located offshore, positioned south of ExxonMobil-operated Block 15 and north of Block 17, which is operated by TotalEnergies and remains Angola’s largest producing offshore block.

The agreement was signed by Martin Deffontaines, CEO of TotalEnergies in Angola, and Ane Aubert, Equinor’s Country Manager for Angola. T

he ceremony was witnessed by representatives from the Angolan National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), including Hélder Iombo, Director of Negotiations; Raúl Madaleno, Block Manager; and Neusa Cardoso, Director of Communications.

The partnership reflects both companies’ continued interest in expanding their upstream portfolios in Angola and supporting the country’s long-term strategy to sustain and grow oil and gas production.
