Puma Energy Reaffirms Investment Push in Mozambique’s Energy Transition and CNG Expansion

Puma Energy to Expand Mozambique Operations With Focus on CNG, Carbon Projects and Rural Fuel Access

Mozambique’s energy sector development particularly in compressed natural gas (CNG), energy transition initiatives, and carbon-related environmental projects featured prominently on Wednesday during a meeting in Maputo between President Daniel Chapo and Puma Energy Chief Executive Officer Mark Russell.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investment in Mozambique, highlighting the country’s growing potential in energy development and sustainability-linked initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy access.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mark Russell described the discussions as productive and reiterated Puma Energy’s long-term commitment to strengthening its footprint in the Mozambican market.

“It was an honour to meet the President again. We had a very productive discussion about the opportunities and challenges currently facing the energy sector,” he said.

Russell said the company’s strategic objectives align closely with Mozambique’s national priorities, particularly in advancing the energy transition and addressing climate change.

“We remain extremely committed to our operations in Mozambique and are looking to further expand our presence,” he said.

He also pointed to growing opportunities in compressed natural gas (CNG) development and carbon-related projects as key pillars of Puma Energy’s global sustainability strategy.

In addition, discussions covered efforts to improve energy access across the country, including expanding fuel distribution infrastructure into underserved and rural areas through the development of new service stations.

According to Russell, Puma Energy is actively evaluating potential locations for network expansion, a proposal he said was well received during the meeting.

“We are absolutely committed to developing our business in Mozambique, including assessing rural areas for new fuel stations,” he said.

He added that the meeting with President Daniel Chapo marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between Puma Energy and the Mozambican government, describing the engagement as constructive and forward-looking.
