Egypt Increases Oil and Gas Output with New Western Desert Wells and Nile Delta Discovery
Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the successful drilling of two new oil and gas production wells in the Western Desert, reinforcing efforts to raise domestic energy output.
According to the ministry, Agiba Petroleum Company drilled the Dorra 36 and West Yasmine 3 wells, with initial tests confirming strong natural flow rates from both locations.
Preliminary estimates indicate combined production of around 1,650 barrels of crude oil per day, in addition to approximately 19 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Agiba Petroleum said work is already under way to tie the new wells into existing production facilities, allowing output to be brought on stream as quickly as possible.
The announcement comes as Egypt accelerates upstream activity. In December 2025, the ministry signed agreements with international partners to drill 26 oil and gas exploration wells during the first quarter of 2026.
In a separate development, UAE-based Dana Gas reported a new onshore gas discovery in the Nile Delta following the successful drilling of the North El Bassant 1 exploration well.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said Egypt’s natural gas production continues to increase steadily and has now reached about 4.2 billion cubic feet per day, reflecting the impact of ongoing drilling and development programs across the country.
