Angola Achieves 93 Percent Diamond Traceability to Strengthen Transparency and Governance

Angola Tracks 93 Percent of Diamond Production, Aiming for Full Traceability and Global Leadership

Angola has successfully traced 93 percent of its diamond production, advancing its goal of promoting transparency, governance, and adherence to international best practices, the Angolan National Diamond Company, Endiama, announced on Tuesday.

A statement from Endiama emphasized that diamond mining companies in Angola “have reached a significant milestone by ensuring that 93 percent of total production is now traceable.”

This achievement reflects the collective effort of mining companies to modernize control and monitoring systems, enabling the complete tracking of each diamond from extraction to sale.

“From its geographical origin to the final consumer, there is now detailed information on each mining company’s compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance standards, including social responsibility, and alignment with international market demands for minerals with traceable and responsible origins,” the statement explained.

Endiama also highlighted that mining companies remain committed to strengthening traceability systems and embracing technological innovations, with the goal of achieving 100 percent traceability of national diamond production in the near future.

Angola is currently the fourth largest diamond producer globally and aims to become Africa’s leading diamond producer by value by 2024, positioning itself as a global leader in the diamond industry.
