India and Angola Deepen Cooperation in Oil, Mining, and Technology

President Droupadi Murmu’s Angola Visit Strengthens India–Angola Ties in Oil, Mining, and Emerging Technologies

During her first-ever state visit to Angola, President Droupadi Murmu spotlighted new opportunities for Indian investment in Angola’s oil, mining, and technology sectors key areas that could define the next phase of India Angola economic cooperation.

President Murmu met with Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, where discussions centered on long-term energy security, mineral exploration, and technological innovation.

She emphasized Angola’s strategic importance as a reliable energy partner for India, noting that Indian oil and gas companies are keen to enter into long-term purchase agreements and participate in upstream exploration projects.

India also expressed interest in investing in onshore and offshore refinery projects and in building petroleum refining capacities through joint ventures, leveraging its global expertise in energy technology and sustainable operations.

In the mining sector, President Murmu highlighted India’s advanced capabilities in exploration and value addition, particularly in critical and rare earth minerals essential for modern technologies such as electric vehicles, semiconductors, and renewable energy systems.

Both sides acknowledged the potential to develop mutually beneficial partnerships that could strengthen global supply chains in these strategic minerals.

Technology collaboration formed another key pillar of the discussions. President Murmu noted India’s progress in digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and clean energy technologies, offering cooperation frameworks to support Angola’s digital transformation and industrial modernization.

The President also underlined India’s interest in combining Angola’s abundant natural resources with Indian technological expertise to create sustainable, high-value industries that can drive growth in both nations.

The visit marks a milestone in India–Angola relations, coming as the two countries celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties and as Angola commemorates 50 years of independence.

President Murmu is scheduled to address the Angolan National Assembly on November 11, where she is expected to outline a shared vision for energy and technology cooperation. Following her engagements in Angola, she will travel to Botswana from November 11 to 13 for the second leg of her state visit.
