Eni Ghana Expands Gas Processing Facilities to 270 MMSCFD, Supporting Cleaner Energy and Power Supply

Eni Ghana, together with its partners Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has successfully expanded its gas processing facilities, increasing capacity to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

This expansion is a vital step toward strengthening Ghana’s energy security and accelerating the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Since its launch in 2018, the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project has become a major domestic gas supplier, currently meeting about 70% of Ghana’s national gas demand, primarily for power generation.

Gas output initially started at 210 MMSCFD, but ongoing improvements have steadily increased capacity.

The latest upgrade, completed on July 13, improves the consistency of gas delivery and reduces Ghana’s dependence on oil-powered electricity generation.

Today, gas from the OCTP project accounts for roughly one-third of Ghana’s electricity supply, providing households, businesses, and industries with a cleaner and more reliable energy source.

Eni Ghana’s managing director described the achievement as a testament to strong collaboration and shared commitment to Ghana’s sustainable energy goals.

Eni holds a 44.4% stake in the OCTP project, followed by Vitol with 35.6%, and GNPC with 20%. Beyond energy production, the partners actively support community initiatives, including vocational training, clean water access, and local economic development.

Since entering Ghana in 2009, Eni has maintained steady production levels of approximately 34,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
